![]() Our intention with this chapter of Virtual While we remain true to the core of the Villagers was to create a great focus on game, and we know that the game is the story of the island, to build on the about the Island and the little villagers, mystery, and to work toward a climactic in order to stay rich and competitive we point in the overarching story of Isola. This small essay is not intended to be a post-mortem of the game, although I will mention something that we have been observing as we complete the third sequel to the original Virtual Villagers. The puzzle designs are more closely integrated with the story, and more closely integrated with the other puzzles, so that the game feels very active and seamless.at least that is my perception when I am playing it. That being said, I should point out that we have not yet arrived at the great climax in the sweeping story of Isola that I just alluded to! The good news is that this means that we do intend to continue the series, although we promised ourselves that we will stop when it is complete and perfect, and we will not drag it out or ”jump any sharks.” This chapter, however, is my favorite so far. After working almost a full year on Virtual Families, we became quite homesick for our fictional island of Isola, and we were starting to miss all the cute villagers! We knew we wanted to continue this story, although some doubts started to creep in: Is there more to say about Isola? (Yes!) Can we make it fresh for new players and satisfying to veteran players? (Maybe!)Īs a very long-term project, not so much as a sequence of games, but more like chapters in a story that require patience and care in their telling. Setting out to create Virtual Villagers – The Tree of Life, however, was an easy decision. This is something that we have learned to accept over the years, and, contrary to the advice of many of our colleagues, we have resisted growing the company to the point where we do more than one game at a time.
